Colorado Wildfire Mitigation Tax Incentives
State tax benefits for Colorado landowners who complete wildfire mitigation work on their property.
Who qualifies: Private landowners with Colorado property in a wildland-urban interface (WUI) area. Only one owner per property or joint return can claim.
Credit (2023-2027): 25% of costs, up to $625, for 2023-24. Rises to 100%, up to $1,000, for 2025-27. It has income limits, isn’t refundable, and doesn’t carry forward. File with form DR 0104CR.
Subtraction (2017-2024): 50-100% of costs, capped at $2,500. File with form DR 0104AD.
Eligible costs: Defensible space, fuel breaks, thinning, and slash treatment, all meeting CSFS/DFPC standards. Receipts required.
Not eligible: Grant-funded or cost-shared amounts, volunteer labor, and inspection fees.
